As President of Freedman Consulting, LLC, Tom Freedman is an advisor to leading political figures, corporations, and non-profit organizations developing policy ideas that become part of an effective strategic message. Mr. Freedman served in the Clinton Administration as Senior Advisor to the President, and prior to that as Special Assistant to the President for policy planning. In the 1996 presidential campaign, Mr. Freedman was Chief of Staff for Strategy, helping to create the policy and communications plan for Clinton/Gore ’96. Previously he was Press Secretary and later Legislative Director to then Congressman Charles E. Schumer (D-NY).  He co-founded the non-profit organization the Welfare to Work Partnership, which grew to include more than 20,000 companies that hired more than 1 million Americans off of public assistance. Mr. Freedman served as a member of the 2008 presidential Obama-Biden Transition Project on the Technology, Innovation, and Government Reform Policy Working Group.

Mr. Freedman is an honors graduate of Carleton College, and a graduate of the University of California at Berkeley where he was Editor-in-Chief of the California Law Review. Mr. Freedman was awarded a traveling Watson Fellowship in 1985 and conducted a year long study of the African famine. He is also a senior fellow at the Washington-based Progressive Policy Institute.  He has published opinion articles in a variety of newspapers including The New York TimesThe Christian Science Monitor and The Washington Post. In 2009, Mr. Freedman authored the chapter of recommendations for the next Domestic Policy Council in the book Change for America: A Progressive Blueprint for the 44th President (Center for American Progress) and wrote a chapter on ending child hunger in America with Joel Berg in the book Memos to the New President (Progressive Policy Institute).
 


 

Karin K. Freedman is the Vice President and CFO of Freedman Consulting, LLC. She served in the Clinton Administration from 1995 until 2001 in various capacities, including as Communications Director and Chief of Staff of the Domestic Policy Council at the White House, and as Special Assistant to the President. 

From 2001 through 2005 Ms. Freedman served at the Democratic Leadership Council and Progressive Policy Institute in Washington, D.C. as Press Secretary, the senior officer in charge of media relations. 

Ms. Freedman has also served on Capitol Hill as a member of the staff of the United States Senate Budget Committee. Ms. Freedman is a summa cum laude graduate of the University of California at Los Angles (UCLA).
 

 

Kyra Jennings serves as Chief of Staff and Senior Media Strategist for Freedman Consulting, LLC, utilizing her experience as a communications professional with top-level campaigns, elected officials and political organizations to meet our clients’ strategic goals and manage the operational needs of Freedman Consulting, LLC.

Ms. Jennings previously was Communications Director for Congresswoman Zoe Lofgren and for Congressman Chris Carney’s insurgent 2006 campaign. She then served as the Southern Regional Press Secretary for the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) during their historically successful 2008 election cycle. Ms. Jennings most recently worked as Press Secretary for Alex Sink’s gubernatorial campaign in Florida and Communications Director for Chief Financial Officer Sink in her statewide elected office. She graduated with distinction from Duke University.
 
 

 

As Project Director at Freedman Consulting, LLC, Sam Gill has helped to manage the firm’s work with leading foundations, elected officials and candidates for office, non-profits and Fortune 500 companies. He has participated in diverse projects, including strategic evaluations and planning, policy development and communications.

Mr. Gill graduated with honors from the University of Chicago and from the University of Oxford, where he was a Rhodes Scholar. Previously, he worked for Media Matters for America, the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Human Rights and Mental Disability Rights International.

His work has been published in The Chronicle of Philanthropy, The Los Angeles Times, USAToday, Politico, The Christian Science Monitor, The New York Daily News, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Huffington Post, Policy & Practice, MinnPost and The Oxonian Review of Books.
 
 
 
  
Emily Cole is a Senior Associate with Freedman Consulting, LLC. She graduated with honors from Amherst College with a B.A. in Political Science and French and a certificate in African studies. Ms. Cole served in the Peace Corps in Senegal where she worked as a Preventative Health Volunteer and Program Assistant for the Gender and Development and Training programs.
 
 
 

 

Alexander C. Hart is a Senior Associate with Freedman Consulting, LLC. Previously, Mr. Hart covered the House of Representatives for Congressional Quarterly and was a Reporter-Researcher for the New Republic.  He graduated magna cum laude from Georgetown University’s Walsh School of Foreign Service with a degree in international economics.  His work has been published in The New Republic, The Los Angeles Times, The Chicago Tribune, Congressional Quarterly, CQ Weekly, The Orlando Sentinel, ABCNews.com, and The Alexandria Times.
 


 
Sarah Olinger is a Communications Associate with Freedman Consulting, LLC, where she assists clients with new media and strategic communications needs. Before joining Freedman Consulting, LLC, Ms. Olinger served as an AmeriCorps VISTA in Columbus, Ohio. She previously worked with Freedman Consulting, LLC, in developing an app for iPhones that allows users to find the nearest defibrillator. Ms. Olinger graduated from Miami University with a B.A. in Strategic Communications, specializing in new media.
 
 
 
Amelia Barry is an Associate with Freedman Consulting, LLC, where she assists the firm’s president in addition to working with clients.  Prior to joining Freedman Consulting, Ms. Barry was a Staff Assistant at the Bockorny Group. She previously worked as an Organizing Fellow on the Obama for America campaign and interned for Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA).  Ms. Barry graduated from Hamilton College with a B.A. in Government and a minor in Sociology.
 
 
 


Rebecca Kilberg is a Fellow with Freedman Consulting, LLC. Previously, Ms. Kilberg worked as a communications intern for the Migration Policy Institute. She graduated with honors from the University of Chicago with a B.A. in Linguistics and a minor in Germanic Studies.

 
 

Madeleine Rumely is a graduate of George Washington University with a B.A. in International Economics and is presently pursuing a M.S. in Accounting at Baruch College, CUNY. Prior to joining Freedman Consulting, LLC, to assist with Spotlight on Opportunity and Poverty, Ms. Rumely worked as a business analyst at a software firm.
